This is an up-to-date series which provides current examples and accompanying photos to help students understand and comprehend various issues facing society today. The titles in this series cover topics from gun control to fake news to the #MeToo movement. Most of the images in the books are stock photos, but they do represent a variety of people and do not play into stereotypes. Although the books are short, they are dense with text and facts. Each book tells of incidents related to the titular issue, along with facts, anecdotes from those involved when appropriate, and the resulting debate of how the issue could best be resolved. Different incidents are highlighted on purple pages with in-text citations to emphasize their telling. Likewise, quotes excerpted from the text may be shown in a circle or a square on the side of the page or overlaid on a photo where applicable. Some of the books include graphs, maps, and other infographics. All titles also include source notes for each chapter and a short bio about the author. Additional Resources. Index.
