The Eiffel Tower is one of the most immediately identifiable structures in the world and a beloved icon: of Paris, France. It is difficult to imagine the city without Gustave Eiffels creation, and yet it was meant to be a temporary structure scheduled for dismantling just 20 years after its completion in 1889.
